Bob Collymore Jazz Festival announces artist line-up for Feb 2025 event

The third edition of the Bob Collymore International Jazz Festival Series (BCIJF) is set to feature a dazzling mix of local, regional and international artistes as it takes place on 15th February 2025.
Following a competitive audition process held in late 2024, the Festival will feature the Kaima Mwiti Quintet as well as Judah and the Tribe, a dynamic 9-piece Afro Jazz Band.

"Our ambition is to ensure that we continue to create a sustainable platform to showcase great jazz talent. Our auditions process attracted several new acts that prove that our ecosystem continues to grow as it supports the Kenyan creative economy," said Wambui Collymore, the Festival Director.

Abel Mutua: “YouTube Doesn’t Pay Me, But It’s My Most Valuable Asset”

Renowned Kenyan filmmaker and content creator, Abel Mutua, has revealed that despite generating significant revenue from his popular YouTube channel, “Mkurugenzi,” he doesn’t directly profit from the platform.

Mutua, known for his captivating storytelling and innovative approach to filmmaking, has amassed a substantial following on YouTube, boasting over 701,000 subscribers and an average of 150,000 views per video. His channel, which began as an experiment, has become a cornerstone of his creative enterprise, attracting millions of viewers and generating substantial income.

“Let me shock you,” Mutua stated, “the money I get from YouTube is not bad, but my staff is huge. I have a payroll of fourteen people, and the revenue from YouTube primarily goes towards paying them. I don’t take home much, but it’s enough to ensure everyone on the team is well compensated.”

'Iwájú' first African animated series on Disney transports viewers to futuristic Lagos

When Hamid Ibrahim, the co-founder of African entertainment company Kugali, claimed in a press interview that his business would "kick Disney's ass," he never imagined he'd end up collaborating with the media giant.

"After the interview when I went home I was like, 'I shouldn't have worded it like that, I should have been a bit nicer the way I worded it', but thank God I did not word it nicer," saya Ibrahim.

But thanks to that comment, Disney reached out to him and the other Kugali co-founders, Ziki Nelson and Toluwalakin Olowofoyeku, about developing a project together and so "Iwájú" was born.

Iwájú" is a show set in a futuristic Nigeria and tackles important themes, such as pay disparity.

While being "a love story to Lagos," it doesn't shy away from its negative side.

"There are certain harsher truths or realities that exist in modern day Lagos that were important to to reflect," says director Ziki Nelson.
